  4. At any time, you can see what's in your shopping cart by looking to the right-hand side of the web-page, where Shopping Cart is displayed. Under that, you can click on View cart to see more detail, to remove things from your cart, or to change the quantities.
  5. When you are ready to buy, click on the Checkout link to proceed to the website's checkout. This is where you enter your address, and then choose how you want the books delivered to you.

Delivery

Information about delivery and returns for your orders

Most of our orders are from customers with UK postal addresses.

We can, however, send Mary's books to most other countries in the world. If you do not live in the UK, and wish to order some of Mary's books, please add them to your cart and go to the checkout. If the country you live in is listed in the drop-down box entitled "country" then we can ship books to you.

If you are wanting to buy Mary's books, and do not come from a country that this site currently calculates shipping for, please get in touch and we'll see if we can add prices for your country.

The full list of countries we currently dispatch to is as follows:

Books by Mary Oakley is administered by Liz Oakley in her spare time.

We always endeavour to post the books you order as quickly as we can. However, please understand if there is a delay, and bear with us.

We guarantee to post your books within 3 weeks of ordering, and usually manage a much faster service.

If you are concerned about when your order might arrive please get in touch.

When you go to the Checkout, you need to enter your address. If you are having the books sent somewhere other than your own address, you will need to supply your address as the “billing address”, and the address where the books are to be sent as the “shipping address”.

Most countries do not charge import taxes on books, so it is highly unlikely that there will be import duties to pay. However, should you be charged, you are liable for any taxes and associated handling charges. If this concerns you, we advise you to check with customs and excise for the country you live in, who should be able to answer your question.

If you are charged any import duties, although we cannot pay those duties for you, we would like you to let us know what has happened. It would help us advise other prospective customers appropriately.

If you want to return anything you have ordered please get in touch before sending it back. We are very accommodating, but like to know something is on its way back first! If we make a mistake we will, of course, give you a full refund. If you simply change your mind, you can always send your books back, but we do reserve the right not to refund postage costs in this case. But as we say - get in touch with us if there are any problems whatsoever. We want you to be totally satisfied with your order and will do all we can to help.

My Account

Questions about logging into Mary's Books' website, and managing your online account

The short answer is: No.

You can add items to your shopping cart, and check out, without ever creating an account.

When you place an order in this way, an account is created for you using the e-mail address you supplied when you placed the order. That way, you can always log back in at a later date if you wish to do so.

Having an account allows you to view all your previous orders.

The website will also remember any addresses you've used before, meaning that you can ship a new order to one of those addresses without having to re-enter all the details.

Click the "Log in" link on the right hand side of the web page (under the My Account heading). Enter either your username or your e-mail address, and your password.

Click on the "Password Request" link on the right hand side of the web page (under the My Account heading), and enter either your user name or your e-mail address.

You will receive an e-mail containing a link. Click on that link to log back into your account. That link only allows you to log in once, so the first thing you should do is change your password to one you will remember

There are two possible explanations for this.

If you had an account with us before April 2009, that would be before we changed our website over to use a different system. One unfortunate side-effect of that changeover was that we couldn't transfer the details of all our customers across to the new system. This need not be a problem; add the items you want to your shopping cart, proceed through the checkout, and a new account will be created for you on this new website.

The other possibility is that you may have registered with a different e-mail address. If you've recently changed your Internet Service Provider, you may want to try logging in with a previous e-mail address and see if that is more successful.

If you are sure that you had an account here, but the above advice does not help, please get in touch.

We don't keep addresses on file for our customers. When you go to checkout, a drop-down list is supplied of all the addresses you have ever used to order books. If you have moved house, simply type in your new address for your next order. From this point on, your new address will be one of those listed.

Payment

Questions about how you pay for your order

We accept two forms of payment. You can pay by cheque or using PayPal. PayPal allows you to pay by credit or debit card.

PayPal is a website offering people the chance to pay for things they buy online. What actually happens is that you pay PayPal, and then they transfer the money to us. This allows you to pay by credit or debit card without having to give us your payment details.

We only accept payment by cheque if the cheque is drawn on a UK bank, and if the order is to be shipped within the UK.

Please make your cheques payable to Mrs E A Oakley, and send them to us at The Vicarage, High Street, Kemsing, Sevenoaks, TN15 6NA.

When we receive your cheque, we will bank the cheque and wait for it to clear; after it has cleared, we will process your order.

Privacy

Questions about how we use and store your personal information are answered here

Thank you for trusting your personal data with us! This page tells you how we will use your data. The summary is "don't worry", but here's the detail...

This website does not hold any of your financial details. Either you pay us by cheque, or an external company (such as PayPal) handles all credit card transactions for us.

If you choose to pay for books using an external payment company (such as PayPal), you will need to give them certain details. Such companies all have their own privacy policy which you are advised to consult.
